2009 – A New Year – New Challenges – Needing God

It’s 2009

It is January 1, 2009. A new year is upon us and there are many things going on in the world. There are wars in the Middle East between Israel and Hamas. The United States is at war in Afghanistan and Iraq fighting “terrorism.” There are wars in Africa. Economies around the world are shaky and that includes the United States. Violence exist in every society. The times are dangerous.

This Past Year

The biggest news in the U.S. is the newly elected President and a failing economy. The failing economy probably had a lot to do with why the first African American President has been elected. He comes to office with promises of change. People are expecting a lot from the man, but, he is just a man.

What’s Happening?

So where are we now as a world? I think we are in a place where we need to place our focus on the Lord God. Thus far, thousands have lost their jobs. Many are homeless in the U.S. There are people all around the world and the U. S.  with not enough to eat. We need many things to change. We need help. We need God.

We Need To Change

Yes, there are many intelligent people in public office, in service and in leadership whom we as a world are relying on to solve all of our problems. Millions of people claim to be Christians or religious in some way. If that is the case why are we looking to man for solutions to the complex problems of the world?

As a Christian, I am speaking for myself as well when I say Christians need to step up the game. We need to get our act together. We are not praying enough. We are not familiar enough with scripture. We are not living by faith.  We are not being led by the Holy Spirit.

It’s Time To Draw Near To God

The bible says that.. “faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.” (Rom 10:17) So if we are going to have faith we are going to need to be in God’s word, reading, hearing, and practicing. And we need to be doing this more than we do anything else. I believe that the more we are in God’s word and striving to obey the things that we learn there the more we have the ability to be led by the Spirit of God. This takes meditating on God’s Word and prayer. There needs to be a genuine effort to draw near to the Lord.

No one knows what this year will bring. There could be real hard times coming. How will you handle it? Will you live in fear, panic, worry? Let’s finally begin to follow after God and learn to put our trust in Him and His promises. Life in this world could become increasingly difficult but we have a God who can comfort, provide, heal, and deliver in every situation.

Let’s draw near to God in 2009. The bible says..“Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.” (James 4:8)
